Sheridan WYO Rodeo Officially Renamed to Sheridan WYO Rodeo and World Championship Indian Relay

Sheridan, WY (April 22, 2026) – The Sheridan WYO Rodeo has updated its name to Sheridan WYO Rodeo and World Championship Indian Relay. In honor of the WYO’s long-standing partnership with Indian Relay and native American communities, the explosive popularity of the sport, and the ways in which the races have enhanced the WYO Rodeo and Sheridan, Wyoming, the board is pleased to make this official name change.
The World Championship Indian Relay Races started back in 1997 in Sheridan and since that time interest has grown exponentially. Many new races have been created and other large rodeos, including the Pendleton Roundup and the Calgary Stampede, have added the races to their venue as well. “The World Championship Indian Relay Races have set us apart from other rodeos and events. Many people identify Sheridan as the very best on the circuit, and our long history of the event has helped us set the standard for professional relay events. Rodeo competitors, personnel, and fans share in the excitement, as the races get better each year. This year we are proud to announce the addition of women’s relay racing to the venue,” states Indian Relay Director Jess Sams.
In 2025 the Sheridan WYO Rodeo and World Championship Indian Relay set attendance record sellouts for all four performances and record-breaking payout of over $515,000, including $95,000 to the Indian Relay Races. Anticipated payout and prizes for the races will increase to over $100,000 this year.
Sheridan WYO Rodeo week will take place July 6th – 12th, with four rodeo performances July 8th – 11th, starting at 7:00pm nightly with the World Championship Indian Relay Races.
